Business Plans: Conference Room Equipment
June 22, 2008 – 12:00 pmConference room equipment has gotten much more complicated than in years past, when an easel and a whiteboard were all the necessary equipment. Easels and poster boards have now been replaced by the digital projector, which can project the contents of the connected computer onto a screen or a wall. Even the whiteboard has the capacity for high technology. With some software and some digital interface equipment, the contents of a whiteboard can be captured and stored or e-mailed for later perusal.
Many conference rooms are now hard-wired for the digital world, with wireless networks and ports to accommodate a host of laptop computers and peripheral equipment. The advent of video-conferencing has given people the ability to attend meetings from hundreds and thousands of miles away. PowerPoint presentations can be sent around the globe while they happen. This is one of the major reasons that corporate network security is such an important issue.
From the presenters point of view, the digital revolution is a real boon. Professional presenters can carry all of their presentations together on one notebook PC and keep them in a bag with their other presentation equipment. Presenters often carry their own digital projectors, portable amplifier/speakers, and interactive remote controls so they never have to worry about quality or compatibility issues. Imagine trying to carry an easel and 500 poster boards everywhere you go.
More on Interactive Remote Controls
Interactive remote controls can control most everything in a conference room. The most robust remotes can control a digital projector, a flat-screen plasma television, the cursor on your computer screen, and the lights in the ceiling. You will usually pay a relatively hefty price for all of that functionality, though. If you can make do with flipping the lights on at the wall switch, you will save money. The things to remember about remotes are durability, line-of-sight issues (infrared units have them, radio frequency–RF–units do not), battery life, and operable range.
